Uggs

This post is a bit of an apology to our girls, Lauren, Lindsey and Amanda. Early on in the trip, Felice was quite excited at the prospect of bringing home a pair of Uggs to each of them since they appeared to be bargain-priced.

Felice sent an email to each asking them of their size and preference and she was ready to get the bargain of a lifetime. It seemed odd that some of the Uggs were priced at prices higher than back in the States, while others seemed to be 50% off. We looked at Uggs in probably two dozen stores and became more and more confused. What I have learned is that in the modern world, if something confuses you, the first thing you should do is ask Google. So I did and I came to find that per Wikipedia:
"UGG Australia (or simply UGG) is an American footwear company and is a division of the Deckers Outdoor CorporationUGG is a registered trademark in the United States and over 130 other countries for their brand of sheepskin boots and other footwear, as well as bags, clothing, outerwear and other goods. Deckers also owns registrations for their UGG Australia brand in various countries around the world. Deckers is headquartered in Goleta, California[1] with an e-commerce division located in Flagstaff, Arizona."
So the Uggs we are used to are made by UGG Australia and are the gold standard and shipped right out of our backyard in Flagstaff.
 We also learned from Wikipedia:
"There has been a dispute between some manufacturers of ugg boots as to whether "ugg" is a protected trademark, or a generic term and thus ineligible for trademark protection. In Australia and New Zealand, where the term is considered generic, more than 70 registered trade marks include the term "ugg" in various logos and designs."

So if we were to bring back the "generic" Uggs to the girls it would be tantamount to buying a Coach purse on the streets of New York. Imagine Felice's disappointment that she couldn't provide the girls Uggs from Australia because the generic ones are basically fakes and the genuine ones are cheaper in the States.
